PlaceBook – Social mapping app

Placebook is a visual mapping of your Facebook community, quite an interesting concept. Not instantly jumping out with practical usability – but I do have an eclectic circle on Facebook.

OK so I can see where my contacts cluster geographically, but if they are ‘friends’ I would kinda get that anyway?

OK so just maybe this was an excercise in what can we do with social mapping – which was the case here. Two students responding to a competition in the Czech Republic.

The stats break down nicely, giving me the numbers of contacts in which countries, the distances they are from me, but that is merely mildly interesting in self centric manner.

Wonder if a geo located Twitter map would be any more relevant? Probably not for me, I tend to know who is in the same country or location. I use foursquare to check out locational data, Gowalla not so much and Yelp more as a review site.

Now Latitude I do like, especially now with checkins and badges and all
